Soundbeam
Soundbeam narrows the gap between what can be imagined and what can be achieved. Many schools and other facilities in over 25 countries are working with this thrilling way of creating and exploring sound, of composing and performing music. It is now recognised as a powerful, radical and accessible educational and creative tool.
Soundbeam is a device, which uses ultrasonic sensors to detect, at a distance of up to six metres and without physical contact, the direction, speed and distance of body movement. It translates this movement into electronic music or sound effect via connections to an electronic keyboard, sampler or sound module.
Its success rests upon two factors; firstly, the sensitivity of the beam means that even the most unreachable or immobile individual can 'play' independently; secondly, electronic technology makes available a huge palette of possible sound worlds, releasing the player from the traditional limitations of percussion-based activity and allowing their imagination to soar
Using specialist and adapted music technology, Soundbeam enables children and adults to compose and perform their own music.
